Here we go!!!

Seeing as how I am low on funds, the clearance rack at the Lowes home improvement near my home looked appealing. They did happen to have 2 21" T8 Plant Grow Lights. I snatched those up for like 9 bucks a piece, 3 dollars off regular price. (I think they were returns) I also saw a aquarium light hood on sale at the local pet store for about 15 bucks, (also knocked down on a clearance rack) with an Eclipse Daylight Fluorescent 18 in T-8 Lamp. I don't know if this will be enough but it will have to do for now.
The lights from Lowes were easy to install with a couple of screws. The aquarium hood on the other hand was a little tricky. I bought some Velcro from hobby lobby and then stuck that to the ceiling and the light, and just like that, I had my lights set up.
The whole project kinda came about with the worry that my herb garden that my girlfriend got me for Christmas would not have enough light in our northernly exposing windows. So as of right now the only plants that I am experimenting with are herbs. I will increase this in the next couple of weeks however.
The plants look stringy so far but that is because they had already sprouted before I got my set up going.

I have my t.v. above the lighting so I made a tin foil divider so I don't have to look at the glow. Also, it acts as a reflector for the light inside.
Here is the aquarium light that is connected to the shelf with Velcro. I also put some cardboard sides on it so that if it falls off in the night it won't hit the herbs.
I have the blue container in there so the sprouts can be closer to the lights.
Sweet basil, Chives, Sweet marjoram, and Cilantro make up the small pots.
Chives and basil look alright but the sweet marjoram, and cilantro look weak and stringy.
Here is my Sage in the large pot.

Hello World!

It is winter here in Colorado. Outside it is cold and my garden is dead.
So what am I to do. Start a garden inside!!! After some research I have discovered that this could become an expensive and confusing endeavor. So I decided to start this blog in order to create a atmosphere that is easy for another newbie to understand. I will be documenting my experiment with indoor gardening and hopefully do so in an inexpensive manner. Check back in and see how things are going. And if you have any tips let everyone know in the comments section of each post.
